HIV Drug Makes Transmission Virtually Impossible

Finally, some good news in the fight against the spread of HIV. A new study has shown that early treatment of HIV patients can prevent the transmission of the disease.

The drug, taken soon after someone has been infected with the disease, can lead to a 96 percent reduction in transmission. The research was conducted when 877 couples were studied. It was found that the couples given the drug early were drastically less likely to transmit the disease than those that didn’t get the treatment until the disease had started taking its toll.

This, of course, largely impacts the spread of HIV across the world if early detection is present. Still, this shouldn’t stop you all from strapping up and practicing safe sex.
